Description

Head of a large figure with detailed head band. Hollow from the inside. Typical Jalisco facial features are finely carved: face is elongated with strong expressions (smiling), it has large almond-shaped (or coffee bean) eyes, a prominent nose, open mouth, piercings holes through both ears and a reddish surface.

The Jalisco region in western Mexico was home to early pre-Columbian societies known for agriculture, distinctive pottery, and ritual figurines. Their ceramics—especially painted or modeled vessels—provide insight into daily life, ritual practice, and artistic traditions of ancient western Mexico.
