Solid Bronze statue of Osiris
Price
€ 1500
Description
This solid cast Osiris is wrapped in a shroud which clings closely to the contours of his slender body. Only his hands with closed fists protrude from his shroud near the center of his chest. In his right hand Osiris holds the crook, in the left one the flail, both symbols of the absolute reign of the pharaohs.
He wears the atef crown on his head with on either side an ostrich feather. A cobra down the front of the crown with its head erect just below the forehead.
In general, the hands can be side-by-side without overlapping (like this one), the proper right hand above the left in a vertical alignment, or crossed over one another at the wrists. Those with hands side-by-side were made in Middle Egypt, those with hands one above the other in Lower Egypt, and those with the hands crossed over one another in Upper Egypt. (G. Roeder).
